Small Group Activities

Rainbow Color Matching– Have your kiddo use the science pincers to put the colored pom poms in the correct spots (color matching) on the rainbow.

Weather Preschool Activities

Cloud Writing– On a tray put a small amount of shaving cream. Have the kids spread it out. Then pick a letter card.  Have your kiddos write the letter in the shaving cream. “Erase it” and write another letter.

Arts & Crafts

Cloud & Rain Suncatchers– Lay contact paper on the table sticky side up. Stick the cloud and raindrop cutouts on the sticky side of the contact paper. Use blue and white tissue paper squares to fill in the shapes. Then place another sheet of contact paper over top to seal it. Cut the excess contact paper off and tape the raindrops to the cloud with fishing line so they hang underneath

Umbrella Toss – Open an umbrella and set out a pile of folded socks (folded into a ball). Stand back a few feet. Try to throw the socks into the umbrella.

Center Ideas

Keeping some materials at each center and then adding a few extra things based on the theme keeps our centers fresh and interesting for kiddos. You can get a list of what stays at each of our centers by joining our Schoolhouse Resource Library, here

Dramatic Play– Add weather charts, pointers, cameras, and weather tools. Encourage your kiddos to be weather reporters.

MathEye Dropper Water Transfer- Fill a few cups with blue colored water. Add a small sorting tray, a few more cups and a fine motor dropper. Practice transferring the water from the cups to the tray and back again. Have them count how many drops it takes to transfer the water

Playdough- Cloud Dough- Add 1/2 cup of lotion to a bowl. Add 1-2 drops of the food coloring (if using concentrated gel, if using regular food coloring you’ll need more drops to color) and mix. Mix the lotion and food coloring until combined. Add 1 cup of cornstarch and mix. Mix until combined. Then take out the dough and place on some wax paper. Knead with your hands (you may want gloves here so your hands don’t stain). Keep kneading until it forms a dough-like consistency. If it’s still too sticky add another tablespoon of cornstarch.
