Homemade Beauty Products for Mom
Mom life… we are always going and doing and often don’t take time for ourselves. Making it even more important to remove toxins from our everyday products. Here are some of my favorite everyday beauty products for moms that I use to stay clean and refreshed. They are easy to make and don’t require any ingredients that you can’t pronounce the names.

Shampoo
Ingredients-
- 1/4 cup coconut milk
- 1/4 cup castile soap (I use Dr. Bronner’s unscented.)
- 1/2 teaspoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon honey
- 10 drops vitamin E oil
- 10 drops rosemary essential oil
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
How to Make-
- Mix the coconut milk and castile soap together in a small bowl.
- In a separate bowl, stir together the olive oil and honey. Make sure it is well combined.
- Add the oil and honey to the coconut milk and castile soap. Stir well.
- Drop-in vitamin E oil and essential oils. Stir well.
- Store in an airtight container.
Notes-
This shampoo is thinner than typical shampoo, but it does lather up a ton! This shampoo will last for a month when stored in an airtight container.
Favorite Scents-
- 6 drops wild orange essential oil
- 5 drops lime essential oil
- 4 drops bergamot essential oil
- 2 drops peppermint essential oil
Hair Loss Blends-
- 6 drops rosemary essential oil
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
- 4 drops thyme essential oil
- 2 drops peppermint essential oil
Tips for Thickening the Shampoo-
- Add in arrowroot powder or cornstarch to naturally thicken your shampoo. Start with a 1/2 of a teaspoon and add more until the desired thickness is reached.
- Oat flour can be used to thicken homemade shampoo. Make your own oat flour by blending up oatmeal in a blender until it has the consistency of flour. Add a small amount to your shampoo and shake well to incorporate.
- Add one tablespoon of baking soda to the shampoo and mix well.
- Vegetable glycerin can help to thicken shampoo and add lather. Start with 1 teaspoon and add more until the desired texture is met.
Conditioner
Ingredients-
- 2 tablespoons cocoa butter
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon jojoba oil
- 1 teaspoon aloe vera
- 15-20 drops essential oil
How to Make-
- In a double boiler, melt the cocoa butter and coconut oil together. You can make your own double boiler by placing a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water.
- After the cocoa butter and coconut oil are melted together, remove from the heat. Let cool for 5 minutes and then add in the jojoba oil, aloe vera, and essential oils.
- Stir well and pour into a storage container.
- After washing hair with shampoo, add about a teaspoon of the conditioner to the scalp and massage in. Allow the mixture to sit on the hair for 2-3 minutes and then rinse out.
Notes-
Healthy Hair-
- 8 drops rosemary
- 8 drops lavender
- 5 drops peppermint
Best Blend for Women-
- 8 drops lavender
- 5 drops clary sage
- 2 drops wild orange
- 2 drops lime
Best Blend for Children-
- 5 drops lavender
- 3 drops Roman Chamomile
Dry Shampoo
Ingredients for Dark Hair-
- 3 tablespoons arrowroot powder
- 2-3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 5 drops of essential oil of choice
Ingredients for Light Hair-
- 1/4 cup arrowroot powder
- 1-2 teaspoon cocoa powder (you can omit this if you have very light or white hair)
- 5 drops of essential oil of choice
How to Make-
Add arrowroot powder, cocoa powder, and essential oils to a bowl and mix well. Depending on the color of your hair will determine how much cocoa powder you will need. Start with less and add more until you reach the desired color.

Shower Gel
Ingredients-
1 cup castile soap
1 cup pure aloe vera gel
10 drops vitamin E oil
2 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
15-30 drops essential oils
How to Make-
Mix all the ingredients together in a medium-size mixing bowl. Stir until well combined; use an immersion blender to make it easier to get the gel to incorporate with the liquid soap.
Transfer the mixture to an empty shower gel container or a mason jar.
Notes-
This recipe can easily be adjusted for the amount that you want to make. It will last up to six months at room temperature.
Citrus-
5 drops lemon
5 drops grapefruit
5 drops lime
Floral-
5 drops lavender
5 drops patchouli
5 drops chamomile
Fresh-
5 drops lemon
5 drops rosemary
5 drops cypress
Minty-
5 drops spearmint (or peppermint)
5 drops eucalyptus
Face Wash
Ingredients-
- 3/4 cup cooled organic brewed chamomile tea (or filtered or distilled water)
- 1/4 cup liquid castile soap
- 1/2 tsp organic almond oil
- 3-4 drops vitamin E oil optional
- 8 drops Frankincense essential oil
- 8 drops Lavender essential oil
How to Make-
- In a 4 to 6 oz. foaming soap bottle, add liquid Castile soap, organic almond oil and vitamin E oil.
- Add essential oils as needed.
- Fill with chamomile tea or water to the top of the bottle.
- Shake well and use as needed.
How to Use-
- Shake bottle well.
- Wet face with warm water.
- Add 2-3 pumps of DIY Face Wash to the palm of your hand and then use both hands to massage onto the face.
- Massage face for about 1 minute.
- Rinse with warm water.
