Groundhog Chomp– Kiddos identify the letter on the card. If they get a “shadow” card they put all of their cards back. Keep playing until you have gone through all the cards.

Groundhog Roll & Color– Kiddos roll the dice, identify the shape and then color it on their graph.

Arts & Crafts

Cut and Paste Groundhog– Kiddos cut out the pieces and then glue them together to make a groundhog. Then add a sign that says “6 more weeks” or “early spring”. Kiddos can then trace the letters on the sign.

Groundhogs Shadow – Have your kiddos dab the sponge in the paint and then dab along the edge of the groundhog pattern. Making it all the way around the groundhog. Let the paint dry and then peel off the groundhog pattern. You will be left with the groundhog shadow.

Center Ideas

Keeping some materials at each center and then adding a few extra things based on the theme keeps our centers fresh and interesting for kiddos. You can get a list of what stays at each of our centers by joining our Schoolhouse Resource Library, here.
Dramatic Play– A den made from a cardboard box. Groundhog stuffed animals.
Writing– Groundhog letter tracing. Laminate the letter cards and then have kiddos use dry erase markers to trace the letters. Magic Erasers make great erasers to erase the cards when kiddos are done.
Alphabet- Beginning Sound Clip Cards. Kiddos match beginning sounds and put a clip or marker on the picture that has the same beginning sound.
