The biggest thing you need to know!

When is your last frost date? A quick google of your last frost date in your city will help you know what you can plant before this date and after this date.

Most zones are between mid April and end of May.

There’s vegetables that can tolerate some light frost which you can plant now (if you are like me with mid April being our last frost date) and other vegetables that need warmer soil and need to be planted after this date. Some veggies and fruit even need to be planted a month after your last frost date.

You have time to create a garden this year!! Don’t Panic!!

Take a quick look at your frost date and this will help you get your garden journey going.

The hummers have started to make their migration north, which means it’s time to hang those hummingbird feeders.

Follow this simple recipe for nectar 2 cups of water plus a half a cup of sugar. Heat in the microwave for 3 to 5 minutes and then stir to dissolve the sugar.

Let the mixture cool on the counter until room temperature then fill your hummingbird feeders.

We are working to move the raised bed garden. We didn’t realize that it looked like a grave yard till the neighbor stopped by.

It really does. Which is kinda fitting because it is the end of an era here at our Maryland homestead. 😔

But really it is our DIY mindset. Growing up we never hired anyone to do anything. As a family (with my dad leading) we would figure out how to fix and how to customize anything we needed.

Some of my favorite memories are building and fixing things with my dad. Building the porch, rebuilding the engine in my first car, finishing the basement, etc.

What I learned working with my dad has become invaluable as an adult. Today being a perfect example, the septic guy called and there are some more issues they found with the septic system, and I knew exactly what he was talking about and completely understood what he was saying making it so I felt extremely confident in him and the work that he would do for us.

I know that not everyone grew up with a dad like mine who just so happens to be a jack of all trades but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn. YouTube is a great resource to learn new skills, especially when it comes to DIY and even some of the big box stores will have free classes on Saturdays and Sundays to help you learn some of these skills so don’t let your mindset and don’t let others tell you what you can and cannot do.
